Ol Doinyo Lengai Tour
Mt. Ol Doinyo Lengai - “the mountain of God” - is an active volcano which is located in the Gregory Rift Valley, close to the alkaline Lake Natron. A trekking to the peak of Mt. Ol Doinyo Lengai takes 6 to 10 hours, depending on the level of fitness and experience in hiking.
The trekking to Mt. Ol Doinyo Lengai can be combined with a visit to Lake Natron – where thousands of flamingos can be seen. If you have time and fancy a swim in the volcan purified water, then Ngaresero waterfall is definitely for you.
Route Itinerary
Arrival
You will arrive via Dar Es Salaam International Airport and then board a domestic flight to Arusha Airport, or you will land directly at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and our team will meet you there for the transfer to your hotel. You have some time to rest in your hotel – on a full board basis before starting your tour on the following day.

Day 1 – Arusha to Ngaresero
After breakfast in your hotel, you will drive to Ngaresero village – close to Lake Natron and Mt. Ol Doinyo Lengai. The drive takes almost 8 hours and will pass through different vegetation and small villages of northern Tanzania. Your driver will lead you to a logde in Ngaresero for a lovely dinner and comfortable accommodation.
Day 2 – Trekking to the peak (3188m)
At midnight, after some tea and snacks, you will be driven to the base of Mt. Ol Doinyo Lengai ready to start the hike. The hike is expected to take 6 to 10 hours and leads trough different volcanic landscapes. After reaching the peak, you will have time to appreciate the moment and taking some souvenir pictures before you start the descent to the starting point where the Arona Safari transporting car will be waiting to take you back to your lodge for resting and meals.
Day 3 – Visit Lake Natron & Ngaresero waterfall
After breakfast at your lodge, you can take a short walk to visit Lake Natron and the flamingo sanctuary, where thousands of flamingos can be seen. On your way to the Lake Natron, you will walk on volcanic sand while enjoying the nature.
On the walk back to the lodge, the Ngaresero village can be visited and handmade souvenirs from local Maasai can be bought.
After a refreshing lunch, in the later afternoon, Ngaresero waterfall will be waiting for you for a revitalising swim. As the temperature might be rather high, the short distance will be done by car.
The last night of the trip will be spent at the lodge in Ngaresero village.
Day 4 – Travel back to Arusha
After breakfast and before you start your road trip back to Arusha, you have a relaxed walk to the Ngaresero village and the market to see how the Maasai villagers of Ngaresero live their daily lives. The adventure will end by being driven back to your hotel Moshi or Arusha, depending on your further plans, for a goodbye meal.
Departure
You driver will drive you to Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport to catch your flight.
